Generic Flagyl or Metronidazole is an antibiotic that has a variety of uses. It is a therapy for Rosacea. Generic Flagyl is available in a gel form for treating vaginal bacterial infections or vaginosis [aka Hemophilus vaginitis, Gardnerella vaginitis and non specific vaginitis], bacterial infection of the vagina. It is not however, an effective therapy for Candidal Vaginosis or more commonly referred to as a yeast infection. Generic Flagyl, or Metronidazole, is used quite effectively as a treatment for stomach ulcers and other gastrointestinal conditions such as Crohns disease and Ulcerative Colitis which are IBD’s or Inflammatory Bowel Diseases by reducing or thwarting the particular bacteria which resides in the GI tract causing problems. It is also effectual for treating secondary infections that arise as a result of the primary illnesses mentioned above. Generic Flagyl has a number of side effects, the majority of which are not serious but cause some physical distress such as constipation, body itching, rash, upset stomach and headache.

How Is This Medication Taken?
Generic Flagyl or Metronidazole is an oral medication and is available several variants. The extended release version of the drug should be taken without food and an hour before or 2 hours past your scheduled meal. You shouldn’t crush, chew, or split up the tablets before taking them, swallow the tablet whole. The form of the medication is developed to gradually discharge medicine into your system. If you break the pill it could cause an overload of the drug being released all at once. Do not deviate from the instructed protocol for this medication in any way from Physicians direction. Take the full prescription of the drug until the course is completed. Infectious symptoms may appear to be gone but the infection can return if stop taking the drug prematurely.
